The Athenian Players Present The Fantasticks

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]This summer, the Athenian Players invite you to join them in exploring the magical world of The Fantasticks by Tom Jones.  The production includes acting, musical performances, and art by talented students at the Alabama Center for the Arts, featuring students from the Theatre, Music, and Art departments at both Calhoun Community College and Athens State University. These artists have enthusiastically delved into this touching comedy about a Boy, a Girl, their Fathers trying to steer them into adulthood, and the “Villain” who teaches them that love is about more than happily ever after.  Directed by Dr. Hugh Long with Musical Director Ernie Scarbrough, there will be performances on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday July 27-29 at 7:30 pm. The play runs approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, including a 15 minute intermission. Tickets are on sale now.

The cast includes Julian Rojas as The Narrator (El Gallo), Karessa Kelley  as The Girl (Luisa), Will Robinson-Smith  as The Boy (Matt), Trent Thompson as The Boy’s Father (Hucklebee), John P. Jack III as The Girl’s Father (Bellamy), Dean Thompson as The Old Actor (Henry), Sam Powell as The Man Who Dies (Mortimer), and Rabia Siddiqui and Caitlyn Merriman as The Mutes. The master carpenter is Trent Thompson, costumes were designed by Dr. Kimberly Jack, props were designed by Trent Thompson, Melissa Irvin was graphic designer and lead set painter, lighting designer is Josh Davis, sound designer is Jacob McNatt, and Tracy Szappan is the stage manager.

Performances will take place in the Studio Theatre at the Alabama Center for the Arts, 133 2nd Avenue, Decatur.
