Student Reaching Out to Children in Need[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Dateline: August 24, 2018
This Fall, local Athens State University student, Angelique Long, will help shine a ray of light into the youth-filled homeless community throughout North Alabama and across the nation. She will be participating in “Sleep Out America,” a fundraiser spearheaded by Covenant House, to raise awareness and funds to help the homeless community. The Covenant House is a non-profit, American organization aimed at helping children and youth that are seeking shelter from homelessness, abusive environments, and many other circumstances.
The “Sleep Out America” event will be held November 16, 2018, on which Long will be joined by other students, friends, and family to spend the one night sleeping outdoors for the cause. “Nearly 2,000 kids facing homelessness turn to Covenant House for help each night. We are raising funds and awareness to help keep the lights on and doors open for these kids in need,” stated Long.
“For this one night, we will trade our beds for a piece of cardboard and a sleeping bag on the ground.”
Long hopes to spread a loving message to homeless children all over America who are living in fear and uncertainty that people are here to give a helping hand.
All donations collected will be contributed directly to Covenant House at the end of the fundraiser. If you wish to contribute or read Angelique’s story, please do so at app.sleepoutamerica.org.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
