The Alabama Center for the Arts has recently opened a new exhibit endorsed by the Alabama Bicentennial Commission entitled Inside Pike Road with Mose T. The exhibit features artwork from Sara Vessels Mills’ Private Collection of pieces by well-known Alabamian artist Mose T.
Mose T (Mose Ernest Tolliver), born in the Pike Road Community near Montgomery, is one of the most well-regarded artists from the state of Alabama. After suffering an injury that left him unable to walk without crutches, he was no longer able to work and turned to art as a way to cope with his circumstances. He is best known for his paintings of watermelons, birds, and self-portraits. His bodies of work are represented in galleries in Atlanta, Washington D.C., New York, and elsewhere around the world.
The Alabama Center for the Arts will be hosting a Gallery Reception for the Mose T exhibit on Saturday, September 23 at 11:00 am in the Main Gallery. Several family members of Sara Vessels Mills will be present to discuss the art collection, including her daughter, Vicki Vessels Johnston, and sister, Ann Ortega. The event is free and open to the public.
The River Clay Fine Arts Festival will also be held the same weekend on the grounds of City Hall in downtown Decatur. Admission to the festival is $5 for a weekend pass; children 12 and under will be admitted for free. For more information, please visit: www.riverclay.org.
The Mose T exhibit will remain open through Thursday, October 26, 2017.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
