Faculty Participate in Open Educational Resources Workshop
Dateline: March 29, 2019
On March 28, a cohort of Athens State faculty took part in a hands-on workshop on developing and integrating free Open Educational Resources (OER) into courses. The March workshop was the culmination of a year-long collaboration designed to educate a core group of faculty from across Athens State’s three Colleges on OER and provide them with the tools and resources needed to incorporate free, quality educational materials into their courses.
The purpose of the OER workshops is to alleviate some of the financial burden of Athens State’s students’ college degrees by identifying or creating free and low-cost alternatives to expensive textbooks. The March workshop was led by Dr. Josh Hill, Instructional Design and OER Specialist from Auburn University – Montgomery. Participants included Dr. Katherine Quinnell (Director of the Library), Jennifer Wolfe (Librarian), Dr. Susan Herring (OER Librarian), Dr. Chet Breaux (Writing Center Director), Dr. Darlene Turner-White (Associate Professor, Early Childhood Education), Dr. Kim Roberts (Associate Professor, Operations Management), Dr. Katherine Kandalec Holm (Assistant Professor, Career and Technical Education), and Dr. Kimberly Jack (Assistant Professor, English).
