The University will continue normal academic operations for the spring semester on Monday, January 11, 2021. You have a choice to take classes on-campus, online, or in a blended format.
For those wishing to take classes on-campus during the spring, please review the protective measures and protocols that have been put in place to keep students, faculty, and staff safe. These include reduced class sizes to ensure social distancing, protective barriers in classrooms, hand sanitizing stations in campus buildings, and ongoing campus entry screening.
- Check your Athens student email account every day for information from your instructor.
- Log in to your Blackboard account every day. Blackboard is the primary resource used by most faculty to share course content with you.
- Read the Student Guide to Online Learning for helpful pointers and useful tools to help you succeed in your online classes.
- Contact your faculty member or the Help Desk if you are having problems with accessing email, Blackboard, or course materials.
- Attend a live webinar to assist students with questions & issues in online courses
- Athens State has WiFi available on campus that can be accessed from the Founders Hall parking lot. More information can be found here. Additionally, you may be able to reach out to your cellular provider concerning a mobile hotspot you are able to add to your plan.
Classes that are being facilitated online may involve the use of Blackboard or another electronic means of learning delivery.
All current students are assigned a Blackboard Learn™ account. To access Blackboard, please use your full MyAthens email address as your username. If you do not remember your Blackboard password, you can reset it with the “Forgot Your Password?” link on the Blackboard login page. Password reset instructions will be sent to your MyAthens email address. For more information, please visit the “Blackboard Learn” section of the Athens State Help Desk.
No, entry testing is not required for on-campus or online students during the Spring 2021 semester. Instead, the University will conduct enhanced Sentinel Testing, which will include sampling new on-campus students to screen for COVID-19.
For students completing a field experience in K-12 schools, please reach out to your intern supervisor for any questions concerning whether a school will be operational or not. The impact on other experiential learning activities will vary depending on the host organization and its operating procedures. Please reach out to your instructor to discuss the individual scenarios.

Yes, the Career Development Center can help you find temporary, part-time, or full-time opportunities. Employers are still posting jobs, but the hiring process may be taking a little longer. Keep an eye on Handshake for new job opportunities.

Yes, Kares Library and the Writing Center will be open during the Spring semester, but all visitors must go through the screening process and receive a wristband. Additionally, all social distancing and hygiene recommendations will apply to Kares Library visitors.
No, students are not required to be tested before entering campus for the Spring semester. However, students must still enter campus through the gate on Beaty Street or Hobbs Street and receive a wristband before visiting Kares Library.
Normally, taking online courses does not have a negative effect on your financial aid. However, the Office of Student Financial Aid is prepared to answer your questions and discuss your unique situation. Due to high volume, the best way to contact us is by phone or email (see contact information.)

At this time, on-campus events are being limited; however, virtual events have been and will continue to be planned. This is an evolving situation, and we will act in accordance with state and local guidance. Please check our website and social media often for any events that may be planned during the semester.
The Athens State University Testing Center will be open during the Spring semester with reduced capacity and added safety protocol. If visiting the Testing Center, please visit the campus entry checkpoint at 300 N. Beaty Street for the screening process. All visitors to Chasteen Hall, where the University Testing Center is located, must have a wristband showing they are approved to visit campus.
Additional safety protocol will be six-feet spacing for candidates waiting in the hallway for one-at-a-time check-in and recommendations that all personal items be left in vehicles to avoid touching lockers. Masks are now mandatory; gloves are allowed and recommended but not mandatory at this point. Masks and gloves will not be supplied by the Testing Center. Candidates should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to their appointment time to accommodate the extra safety protocol.
