Frequently Asked Questions

At this time, on-campus events are being limited; however, virtual events have been and will continue to be planned. This is an evolving situation, and we will act in accordance with state and local guidance. Please check our website and social media often for any events that may be planned during the semester.

Visitors are allowed and must enter through campus entry checkpoints off Hobbs Street or Beaty Street. Visitors who do not fall under a specific Athens State classification (such as faculty, staff, or student) must answer COVID-19 screening questions and have their temperatures taken with a no-touch thermometer. Those granted access will be given a wristband which must be worn at all times while on campus. Additionally, visitors are required to follow all campus safety and security protocols, including the use of masks or facial coverings and proper social distancing.

If you feel sick, are running a fever, or have other symptoms, please reach out to your health care provider. Please ensure you take steps to avoid passing any illness to others, such as covering your cough and sneeze and staying home when unwell.

Athens State continues to be vigilant in maintaining the health and well-being of students, faculty, and staff. We have put in place a number of measures intended to protect students, faculty, staff, and visitors. From temperature checks and screening checkpoints to social distancing and sanitization measures, we have protocols in place that meet or exceed health guidelines.

As of late November, 16 faculty and staff members and 16 students have tested positive for COVID-19.

In each case where an employee has tested positive, our Human Resources Office has coordinated the response with both the person testing positive as well as those with whom they may have had contact. Per the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines, an individual who has had contact with someone who tests positive for a minimum of fifteen minutes at a distance of fewer than six feet is deemed to have been exposed. Accordingly, all individuals who met this criterion have been advised to be tested and self-quarantine. If the test is negative, an employee will return to work. If the test is positive, an employee must remain off campus for a period of fourteen days from the date they were initially tested. The work areas that have been impacted have been closed for deep cleaning by our third-party cleaning service until the cleaning is completed.

The campus has stringent screening procedures in place for all those entering campus, along with other safety measures that have been implemented on campus. We will continue to monitor events as they transpire and take all necessary actions to ensure a safe work and learning environment.
