Athens State Community Band Christmas Holiday Concert Announced

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Athens State University Community Band, under the direction of Dan Havely, is gearing up for its annual Christmas Holiday Concert. The band is made up of volunteer musicians from a six county area who rehearse on a weekly basis throughout the year.

Two concerts will be held this year in McCandless Hall. This will be the Community Band’s first performance in McCandless Hall since the renovation of the building. McCandless Hall was constructed in 1912 and is one of three buildings on the Athens State campus listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Organist Canna Ricketts will perform several compositions with the band, including the Finale from the Saint-Saens Symphony No. 3, the “Organ Symphony,” and a brilliant new piece, “Festival Fanfare for Christmas,” featuring organ with wind band.

The concerts are scheduled for Saturday, December 12 and Sunday, December 13 at 3 p.m. The concerts are free and open to the public courtesy of the Livingston Concert Lecture Series. Reservations are not required but seating for both performances is limited.

A reception hosted by the Athens State University Alumni Association will be held following the Sunday afternoon performance in the parlor of Founders Hall.

There will be a visit from Santa after the Saturday performance and parents are encouraged to bring their children to the parlor of Founders Hall. Parents may take their own photos.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
