Athens State and DAR Present Combined Constitution Day Program

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Athens State University and the John Wade Keyes chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will celebrate Constitution Day on Wednesday, September 17th. The event will be presented in McCandless Hall on the Athens State campus.

Constitution Day kicks off with a hot dog cookout in the Athens State Sandridge Student Center at 11:00 a.m. followed by a patriotic organ solo at noon on the newly renovated Tracker organ. The Constitution Day Program will begin following the recital. The public is invited to all events free of charge.

“Athens State enjoys our partnership with the DAR to host this community event,” says Debra Baird. “This history focused event always delivers an inspirational message about the founding of our country.” Baird and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences Ron Fritze are serving as Athens State coordinators.

Featured speaker, Capt. Alan Maiorano, USN (retired) will discuss the Constitution and why it matters in America today. Athens State students who participated in the Constitution Day Trivia Contest will be recognized and the winners will be awarded bookstore gift cards.

Boy Scout Troop 240 will be on hand for a flag ceremony, Sons of the American Revolution will present voices of our forefathers, vocalist Jim Thompson will lead guests in patriotic songs, and all in attendance will be asked to sign a copy of the Preamble to the Constitution.
