Alumni Scholarships Awarded

[vc_row full_width=”” parallax=”” parallax_image=””][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]The Athens State University Alumni Association awarded 24 scholarships for 2015-2016 and ranging from $400-$3,000 and totaling over $33,000. Proceeds from the Annual Alumni Golf Classic, revenue received from Athens State license plates, private donations, and investment dividends allow the Alumni Association to award these annual scholarships. Additional scholarships will be awarded once the Athenian Ambassadors are selected for the upcoming academic year. The Athenian Ambassadors and Golf Classic Scholarship recipients volunteer at campus and community events as part of their scholarship acceptance criteria.

Named scholarships awarded were the JJ and Dottie Donahue Golf Scholarship, Walt Merritt Memorial Golf Scholarship, Judy Douthit Scholarship, Dr. Angie Nazaretian Scholarship, JJ and Dottie Donahue SGA President Scholarship, Louise Steele Family Scholarship, Dr. James Ballew Scholarship, Mary Moore McCoy Scholarship, Carlton Whitt Scholarship, Athens Ladies Civitan Scholarship, Dr. Loraine Pabst Scholarship and Geraldine Whitt Scholarship.

Stiliyana-RusevaThe Walt Merritt Memorial Golf Scholarship Recipient, Stiliyana Ruseva, wrote in her thank you letter, “This scholarship will not only help me financially, but it will give me the opportunity to meet a new circle of people and create connections that can last a life time. Your financial generosity is allowing me to be one step closer to my aspiration and has encouraged me to be more established and confident in my pursuit.”

Another recipient states, “I have had the privilege to work the Golf Classic for the past two years, and I enjoy getting to contribute to the fundraising that pays for me to go to school.”
