“It’s an awesome testament to the exceptional efforts of the APICS Board for re-branding, re-focusing, and re-engineering the Tennessee Valley Chapter,” states Hobbs. ”I have been honored to work with such great mentors Dr. Mike Essary (Athens State University), Dr. Pieplow (Athens State University) and Stuart Sleper (Parker Hannifin) grooming me to become a future Supply Chain Leader.“ Hobbs majored in Logistics and Supply Chain Management and graduated in 2011.
Athens State is fortunate to have alumni trailblazing the Tennessee Valley Chapter of APICS to new heights. Along with Hobbs, alumna Luana Waits serves as the Executive Vice-President on the Board of Directors for the chapter. A graduate of 2012, she too majored in Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
“By being a member of APICS, I understand the most current methods and innovations of process management and the supply chain world,” states Waits. Students of Athens State are strongly encouraged to join the Tennessee Valley Board of Directors and actively participate within the organization. Both Hobbs and Waits joined the Board while they were students.
Jointly both Athens State University and participation in APICS enrich the student experience. They enhance their educational knowledge, professionalism, and serve as an intricate platform toward the careers and future goals of students. Students are encouraged to support the monthly professional development meetings where speakers with varying levels of expertise offer vital information on Supply Chain topics. These meetings foster a great networking environment for both professionals in the field and students. “My work with APICS has opened my networking to the operations and supply chain community in a way that would otherwise not be possible. I have learned of others’ work processes and experiences through chapter and district meetings,” states Waits on her participation in activities through APICS.
Nationally, APICS is the leading professional association for supply chain and operations management and the premier provider of research, education and certification programs that elevate end-to-end supply chain excellence, innovation and resilience. The Tennessee Valley Chapter has been active for over 30 years. Members of the Board are preparing to attend the 2015 APICS Annual Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada held in October. Delegates will have the opportunity to engage and network with individuals from all across the country with first-hand experience in the Logistics and Supply Chain field. “The educational classes and the opportunity to network offer an invaluable experience, especially for individuals looking to expand their career”, states Hobbs referring to his participation in past APICS conferences.
The Tennessee Valley chapter of APICS strives to advance all lines of education, benchmarking and networking toward the goal of a better chapter. They eagerly welcome new members and student participation.
