The Alabama Center for the Arts will be hosting “This Old House,” a historic visual presentation by Dr. Caroline Swope. Guests will have the opportunity to learn about the history behind the area’s most common residential house styles as well as how to identify the types of historic homes typically found in Decatur.
Dr. Swope holds a master’s in Historic Preservation and a doctorate in American Architectural History. She has been featured on NPR, in Sunset Magazine, and has taught art and architectural history for almost 20 years. In addition, she has served as a historic preservation consultant on a variety of buildings including public schools, historic caves, Antebellum plantations, and vintage Woolworth buildings. Dr. Swope is currently working with Decatur’s Historic Preservation Commission.
The event, endorsed by Alabama 200, is free and open to the public. It will be held from 12 noon – 2 pm on Wednesday, May 23 in the Recital Hall at the ACA’s Performing Arts Building. Guests are encouraged to bring a lunch to enjoy during the presentation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
