Well folks, the day is finally (almost) here! Tomorrow afternoon at 2:15, the majority of us will be flying out of Huntsville to Atlanta, then Atlanta to MILAN! Some are flying a different route, but we should all be meeting up in Milan on Monday morning. Somebody pinch me! I have looked into some of the assignments we are to complete within our first few days in Milan, one being “Concepts of Americans,” which essentially means we are to figure out how locals perceive Americans and what the various American stereotypes are. From TV and movies to politics, the world has somewhat shaped their idea of what Americans are like. The stereotypes I have come across are slightly disheartening. Many find Americans to be loud, obnoxious, and entitled… While others feel that we are all wealthy party people that do not know how to dress! My goal is to say a kind word to all those that I encounter and, hopefully, break some of these silly stereotypes. We have a wonderful group of Athens State folks traveling out to Milan, and I know that we will enjoy ourselves and make a positive impact on those around us. For now, I am simply counting down the hours…. 28 more to go!!!!
